Some of the members of a large herd of Cape Buffaloes. Note the red-billed oxpecker on the back of the central buffalo. Members of the starling family, these birds parasitize and opportunistically feed upon the buffaloes, consuming delicacies like wounded flesh, scabs, earwax, ticks, and mites. Fleeing at the first sign of danger, they provide a warning service to the buffaloes. For more images of birds and buffaloes, click here.
