The northern regions seem more desperate than their southern counterparts. On our drive we passed many dwellings built from mounds of dirt and branches. Upon stopping for directions near the outskirts of a town, we were mobbed by begging children. We hadn't brought any thing to give, but someone had tic-tacs, which were handed to one of the smaller children. In a touching display of selflessness, she carefully metered out half of them and poured them into the hand of a youngster standing next to her. If I ever make it back to this place, I will bring candy, pens, and phtographs of my house - all things which would be valued in this place.
